Process
From referral to assessment, we’ve designed every step to be clear, supportive, and easy to navigate.
We’ve made the process of getting psychiatric care as straightforward as possible
STEP 1
Referral
To see a psychiatrist, you will need a referral. You can either:
Arrange for a referral from your usual GP, or
Book an initial appointment with a Renatus GP, who has advanced training in mental health.
Please contact us for more information about what the referral should include.
STEP 2
Pre-appointment forms
Before your appointment, we’ll ask you to complete an online form to help us prepare.
For child assessments, additional forms will be sent to both a parent/guardian and a teacher to complete.
This helps us build a full picture of what’s going on and tailor the assessment accordingly.
STEP 3
Assessment
You’ll meet with one of our specialist psychiatrists for a comprehensive evaluation. This appointment involves:
A detailed review of your medical and mental health history
Screening tools that help clarify diagnosis
Discussion of any current medications and relevant life circumstances
If a diagnosis is made, your psychiatrist will develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
STEP 4
Treatment plan & ongoing care
Your treatment plan may include:
Prescription medication (if appropriate)
Coping strategies or lifestyle recommendations
Suggestions for therapy or further supports
A summary of the assessment and treatment plan will be sent to you and your referring doctor within 4–7 business days.
Your GP may assist in a shared care model, which can reduce costs and streamline medication access over time.
